When Wrongs Can Make a Right

Most everyone has had times in their lives where it seems that everything is going wrong. The initial reactions to life struggles are to let the negative thoughts of anger, fear, frustration, or sadness overrun our peace, joy, and vigor for life. However, be of good cheer! It’s easy to be right, but we learn so much more when we are wrong. Whenever struggle appears, spiritually, it is an opportunity to right the ship of life.

Struggles and discord are a reflection of disharmony within. The soul is in conflict with what is happening on the physical plane of life, so subconsciously struggles are created to get our attention. It is so interesting to think that the very struggles we complain and curse about are actually a result of our own creation. Usually, they occur because of wrong thinking and action. Our soul calls us to change through adversity, challenges, and problems.

Often pride and fear get in the way of the soul’s call, preventing inner reflection and change. Pride is that stubborn voice that justifies our wrong thinking and actions, keeping our personal and spiritual growth stagnant. Fear prevents us from looking within, knowing that doing so can stir up unpleasant emotions and memories, keeping us in a state of paralysis. There is a choice-to deal and suffer through the struggles as best we can or, to look within to understand how God is purifying our soul and drawing us closer to Him.

Albert Einstein gives this advice about how to proceed: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Today, start viewing the problems, wrongs, and adversities in life with spiritual eyes and renew the mind. In your mind’s eye, focus on the opportunity to draw closer to God as He lovingly corrects you. Guard your mind against old negative patterns of thinking. What is He trying to teach you? What changes do you need to make in your thinking or actions? What we resist persists so, although it is difficult to look inward and face your fears take comfort in knowing the wrongs of life do not have to define you but can refine you instead, unveiling the God within.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. “(Romans 12:1-2)
